Happy Days

It’s been a while since my last post. I’ve been busy with work and life in general, but I figured it was time for an update.

In the month I’ve been away from blogging, I’ve built my own desktop computer, met a future employer (I hope!), and most recently, sprained my ankle (it’s getting better… I think). During this month, some days have still been harder than others, but lately I’ve been on the up and up. I don’t always wake up in a sunshine-y mood, but throughout the day, I become happier.

On this particular morning, I woke Alex up early so we could visit the Farmer’s Market in Downtown Des Moines. We stayed up pretty late last night, so I wasn’t even sure we’d be up in time to go. The first alarm sounded at 7:45 this morning, and Alex and I slept through it. However, when the 8:00 alarm sounded, I jumped out of bed with more energy than I thought I could ever have in the morning (we’re not early birds by any means).  After a lot of nagging and poking, I was finally able to rouse Alex out of bed to get ready. We were out the door before 9, which is an accomplishment for both of us.

After arriving downtown, Alex and I walked around, testing samples (mostly wine and cheese– big surprise there) and looking at all the fresh produce. We didn’t really buy anything to bring home, but we did have some lemonade, an egg and ribeye breakfast sandwich, some coffee, a bloody mary, and some sweet corn ice cream.

I was a bit wary about the ice cream, but it sounded tasty. Alex and I were so hot and sweaty from being in the sun that the cold of the ice cream and the shade from the tent were more than welcome. We found a shady, breezy spot out of the way of the rest of the pedestrians and ate the ice cream. I wish I had taken a picture of it. There was a little bit of corn pulp in it, but not an excessive amount. The ice cream was smooth and sweet, and I would get it again in a heartbeat.

After we walked the length of the Farmer’s Market, we decided to go home so Alex could get ready for work. I have to work tonight as well, but it should be just fine. We’re all going out to the bar after we close, so it should be pretty fun to bond with my Samurai  Family.

For now, I’m just relaxing at home and enjoying being me. Some days it’s harder than others, but I’m in a good place right now. I’m happy and well taken care of, and my life is good.

Keep smiling,
